Post-Graduate Gestalt Therapy Professional Certificate Program

Although SICGT offers certification, the great majority of people who participate in SICGT’s programs and training do so for personal and professional development, and are not pursuing professional certification in Gestalt Therapy. Nevertheless, SICGT does offer certification for post-graduate training in Gestalt Therapy. SICGT’s training standards for certification in Gestalt Therapy include the requirements below. For international students, SICGT will make needed adjustments to these requirements in order to make certification possible. These adjustments will be discussed between the student and his or her faculty mentor, and must be OK’d by the faculty. Certification is open to licensed mental health professionals.  In very rare circumstances, people without a mental health license may be considered for certification.

Each student who is committed to pursuing certification will be assigned a faculty mentor. The Mentor will meet with the student twice yearly to discuss the student’s progress at no additional fee. More frequent mentor meetings may include a charge of mentor’s hourly fee.

Requirements for Certification in Gestalt Therapy through the Sierra Institute for Contemporary Gestalt Therapy include:

1. Minimum two years of didactic training
2. Minimum of two years of participation in SICGT growth groups
3. 50 hours of psychotherapy with a licensed psychotherapist – preferably a Gestalt Therapist.
4. Written and Oral Examinations.
5. A Culminating Project – usually a 10-15 page paper integrating theory and practice in Gestalt Therapy.
